On behalf of Parkway Middle Community School (PMCS), it is my pleasure to welcome you to The Center for Creative Writing and Humanities.

The Center for Creative Writing and Humanities is the premiere magnet program for students who love to express themselves creatively in written and oral form.   PMCS provides our students with the skills needed to become outstanding writers and oral communicators, as well as encouragement. Writing skills are extensively developed through activities and techniques utilized by professional writers. Magnet program students write everything from reports, essays and poems to song lyrics, comic books and plays. Students are also encouraged to enter all district-approved contests that allow for exposure to print media.

Combined with an innovative creative writing curriculum, these experiences lead students to critical and analytical thinking, as well as effective communication. Parkway’s unique magnet program emphasizes learning through Humanities (the study of world cultures) through field trips to local museums, theaters, colleges, and community events.

Parents of current fifth and sixth graders who are interested in applying for admission to The Center for Creative Writing and Humanities are invited to submit an application by January 31, 2007. Applications can be printed from a link at http://parkwaymiddle.dadeschools.net or pick up one from the Magnet Office at Parkway Middle Community School. Tours for perspective students and parents are offered on Wednesdays at 10:00 AM. For additional information or to schedule a tour, please contact the Magnet Lead Teacher at 305-624-9613 extension 2225.

We encourage you to apply now to The Center for Writing and Humanities at Parkway Middle Community School and join the growing number of students recognized as published authors and written and oral contest winners. So come, make your dreams come true; The Write Place is waiting for you!!!

Educationally yours,

Gwendolyn Moorer
